Top Ten 4th of July Fireworks Displays

Des Moines and it’s surrounding neighborhoods have plenty of options to see great firework displays to celebrate our country’s independence. The following are the best way to celebrate the 4th of July without having to drive too far out of town to do so though check the dates on each one since they’re not all being held on the 4th of July.

  1. Yankee Doodle Pops– July 3rd, Iowa State Capital- the Des Moines symphony’s annual largest single day concert event will feature Broadway singer Hugh Panaro to sing a selection of songs from Music Man and West Side Story. The symphony will play traditional favorites like Stars and Stripes Forever and 1812 Overture with live Howitzer cannons. The concert starts at 8:30pm. Parking for this is very tricky so make sure you leave early to get a decent spot otherwise you’ll have a bit of a hike to your car in the mad rush of everyone leaving once the fireworks are over.

  2. Prairie Meadows Boom– July 3rd, Prairie Meadows, Altoona- Prairie Meadows will have races until the fireworks so you can pass the time away watching the races before the big show. There’s plenty of places to sit on the grass to watch the show so bring a blanket or chairs to make it a little more comfortable.  If you would like more information on the Good Guy car show click here.
